consequences for it. 44 officers faces, 15 suspensions, 23 written reprimands, three counseling and training, one demotion and two will be terminated. >> policing in that kind of environment is very difficult, obviously, but we are trained professionals. we hold our officers accountable for their actions. >> reporter: the chief reports his department received more than 1100 complaints for demonstrations last october and november and this january. the most common infraction was for officers who failed to turn on their videocameras. indy bay and other websites posted videos of some of those officers who didn't have a camera on. other infractions are excessive use of force and false reporting. >> we have thrown the officers

under the bus with this report. we should be prosecuting criminals in oakland. >> reporter: very upset man from the oakland police officers association insists his officers will get a fair hearing through this disciplinary process. a popular restaurant no more tonight. an early-morning fire ripped through the "squat & gobble" restaurant in the west portal neighborhood. ken bastida has more where the mayor just took a tour. >> reporter: he showed up this afternoon. here's some of the damage. this is the wine bar that's next door to the "squat & gobble." and you can see there is still water coming from the second floor and also the west portal medical dental building that shares this corner building, as well. the second floor has just about been destroyed. in fact they told us this

afternoon no one is allowed up there because it' unsafe. i talked to chief hayes and they believe the fire may have started in the basement of the wine bar and spread to the restaurant. the mayor was here this afternoon. i asked him what can he do it help these businesses? >> we have learned how to respond quickly and better because they are small businesses. i'm not just talking talk. we believe this. we'll get a good response to everybody and make sure they are informed adequately and help them out the best we can. >> reporter: yeah. people from the neighborhood have been here all day looking at this. probably about a dozen businesses affected directly and then you have the ancillary businesses next door that can't get any traffic in here today because of the mess. cate caugiran was here when the fire was burning heavily this morning. take a look. >> reporter: it was a fire that would not quit. firefighters say it started at the popular "squat & gobble"

restaurant and aggressively made its way to four other businesses. >> i came right over here and saw the flames and everything. >> reporter: frank and his business partners with his brother who owns the restaurant his brother owned this location for 10 years right now is out of town. >> this is so sad. this store is like his baby. he takes care of them. he does everything. he has to do it right. >> reporter: frank had to break the sad news that the restaurant was a complete loss. >> such a meeting spot for had part of town, the community, the food is wonderful. everybody there is so nice. this is just terrible. everybody who works there, everybody who lives around here is really going to be upset about this. >> reporter: two office spaces, a dental clinic and a wine shop also suffered some major damage. >> it's so sad. they are just such a sweet couple. this is their passion is wine and it's obvious that this is going to hit them very hard. it took crews nearly five hours to get flames under control.

the restaurant's roof collapsed and the flames got so strong they had to fight it from the outside. >> we had to take an interior tact. we had to get residents out or any of the occupants make sure they're safe but our next concern is confining that fire to the original building. >> reporter: throughout the morning, neighbors watched as their community hub burned to pieces. muni shut down the west portal tunnel affecting lines into the city and shuttles were brought in for commuters. the services were back up and running by 10:30 a.m. cate caugiran, cbs 5. >> reporter: chief hayes telling me that three firefighters slightly injured but their injuries were not serious. this is all over the street. you have corks like this from the wine shop from champagne bottles that exploded from the heat. look at the windowsill. they had wine in the store exploded and through out on the sidewalk. you can see all those are corks sit there is behind that glass that got superheated. a the love damage here. they are -- a lot of damage here. they are still going through

it. investigators will be here all night and keeping the area closed off to the public for the time being. live from west portal in mobile 5, ken bastida, cbs 5. a fire in the south bay gutted a family home sending two people to the hospital with burns. neighbors had reported hearing popping noises. that may have been the ammunition that the homeowner says he stored in the home on carl tan avenue near union. cause of the fire is under investigation. another early-morning house fire this one in the mission district is under investigation. that fire started on the deck of a house on fair avenue before moving into the rest of the home. one person inside the house got out safely. other bay area headlines, the couple caught driving the car that belonged to a retired teacher in hercules will be charged with her murder. darnell and tania washington were arrested two days ago in washington state. they were inside 55-year-old susie ko's blue subaru. the vallejo police bomb

squad detonated explosives found inside a house on georgia street. police arrested 51-year-old keith allen oliveira this morning and ended up removing and detonating six pipe bombs. police were tipped off because oliveira was apparently testing his bombs in his backyard. and san jose police are investigating the city's 37th homicide. just before 2 a.m., police got a call about a person shot on rogers avenue and east brokaw road. the man was dead when they got there. he has not been identified. no arrests have been played. but this morning, san jose police did announce the arrest of 10 people in two gang killings earlier this year. the city is on pace to eclipse the record number of homicides that it had just last year. well, phase one mission accomplished? now on to phase two for the presidio parkway project. today city leaders helped celebrate that milestone. earlier in the week we told you it's been quiet since april's

ts final you see a lot of things during the evening commute on l.a. roads but nothing quite like that. the space shuttle endeavour on its final 12-mile trek to the california science center. cbs reporter dave lopez on a slow crawl into the history books. >> reporter: just before 2:00 endeavour left the parking lot. sounds strange to say it, doesn't it? a space shuttle leaving a parking lot in inglewood? but there it was. down la tijera over to manchester where there were some very tight squeezes along the way. we were told in some spots endeavour would have about a 6" clearance with the wingspan. it came close. but no problems so far. it was a sight that caused a great deal of commotion. and it should caught quite a stir and looky-loos. when was the last time you saw something like this, this big, staring at you in a parking lot! the view is always better on
